“Merican Motors”, represents the most recent series of works by Harold Naideau. “Merican Motors” introduces his shift of focus and exploration of new media formats and genres. “Merican Motors” is a collection portraying the state of the hard hit American Auto Manufacturing Industry, through visions of once powerful machines to now long forgotten, rusted, and abandoned cars and trucks. These images have been digitally enhanced and artistically manipulated to bring out through the rust and pitted chrome the splendor of days gone by. This series also introduces us to Naideau’s experimentation of producing his prints on metal substrates. The entire “Merican Motors” collection is printed on ¼ inch brushed aluminum which brings the remains of chipped paint and rusted chrome to life and suggests a three dimensional aspect to the two dimensional image. Guests at a recent showing expressed comments that these photographic works clearly crossed a line from traditional photographic art to something of a new genre of “photographic sculpture." Pieces from this collection include a number of car and truck makes and models; making a splendid addition to any car collector’s or car aficionado’s art collection. Artworks in this collection range in sizes from approximately 20”x20” - to - larger formats of 7’x4’. He recently sold a larger piece of his “Merican Motors GMC”, a five by seven-foot piece, at a private loft showing. A few smaller pieces of his collection are now currently on view at Chase Edwards Gallery, in Oyster Bay, NY, on Long Island’s Gold Coast. |
